Meditation or malarkey?

Many of us start to meditate when starting our journey in the magical world. The topic pops up everywhere, in the witchy books, in forums, and even those occultists try to meditate who follow their path for decades.

Why is meditation so important? Meditation helps you to improve your concentration and focusing skills, and you can enjoy it in your magical work too. Many of the recognitions and experiences happen during meditation and trance what you cannot get in your real life. Is meditation essential then? No, it’s not! If you do not meditate, you won’t be less than other witches, and you can improve your concentration skills otherwise too. There are many other ways to improve it by the way.

But, if you force yourself to practice meditation, you may be satiated by it, or you may play the fool with yourself. Why?

The deepest meditation experience is a beautiful, unique experience which is mostly beyond expression. If you do not go through something special, it is not a bad thing. You do not need to get pictures or sounds during meditation. If you see a lot of pictures, especially for the first time, it is mostly just imagination, it’s only in your mind. Of course you can see pictures during the “true” meditation but you will know that it was just fantasy… except if you’re not getting overweening because of your visions (what you think is true, but it is not). If you think you are a unique person who gets a loooot of messages from the spiritual world during meditation, you’d better make a self-examination…

If someone tells you a lot of his/her meditational experiences, he/she maybe doesn’t know what is the real meditation about. Most of us do not see or hear anything for the first time. Some people do not see anything for years, even though they practice daily. A very few people can go deeper for the first time and get real experiences. Some of us need to use incense or herbs.

Meditation is not obligatory. It cannot harm you but it has got many positive effects. If you fit meditation into your daily routine you may be less stressful and you will find meditation more easier day by day. It worths to practice, even though it is not the part of the traditional magical practice.
