Moon

Most natural, polytheistic, and neo-pagan religions honor the Moon the most. Moon is in a very upscale position everywhere. In addition to the sun, it is the other main symbol, revered by almost every tradition witch.

As a pair of the sun, the moon is linked to the female gender. However, the four phases of the moon are usually associated with four different symbol systems, and in fact, there are traditions that associate different correspondences for each full moon of the year.

Spells made with the moon can be most useful when we need intuition, inner peace, but they are also great for spells related to female fertility, abundance, serenity, peace, love, divination, and home. When working with the moon, use a silver, white, or light blue candle.

The festivities of the moon during the year are the esbats. Some witches also celebrate the new moon (I also like to hold a short thanksgiving ritual at this time). New moons are great for new beginnings, getting rid bad habits, renewal, while full moons are mostly suitable for the completion and fulfillment of something. During the waxing moon, perform all the spells that serve growth, prosperity, be it material, health or any other kind, while during waning moon we can prepare for some big change (which completes at new moon), but the goal can be to ward off malicious intent or the harming itself.

If you want to write moon magic yourself, it’s best to work with the water element. During moon-honoring ceremonies it is advisable to use a bowl of water in which we can reflect the light of the moon, but even a crystal ball or a glass cup filled with water can be perfect for this purpose.

As incense, use sage, cedar, laurel, myrrh, mint, lilac, bay leaves, narcissus, pine, cinnamon, wormwood, lavender or yarrow. If you like to work with crystals, use hematite, moonstone, rose quartz, amethyst, clear quartz, selenite, angelite, opal, or pearls.

For the festive menu, use pine nuts, cinnamon, hazelnuts, fennel, lemon, mint, apples, marigolds, hawthorn, rosemary, lavender, chamomile, sage, berries, poultry or fish.

With the help of the moon, we can more easily understand the cyclicality of the living, and also get closer to understanding female mysteries.
