The Sun

Sun is at the heart of most natural, polytheistic, and neo-pagan religions, but at least in a very upscale position. It is no coincidence that our sun has greatly contributed to the development of life on earth. So, witchy people honor the sun with a sense of gratitude and that’s why it became one of the main symbols.

The sun is usually associated with the male gender as a pair of the moon. While the moon is passive, the sun represents the active side. Spells related to the sun are usually used when hope, strength, willpower, light, enlightenment are needed. We can perform sun spells for healing, growth, fertility (especially male fertility), creativity, but it can also be great for spells related to power, control, performance, will, life, self-esteem, ego. When you cast weather spells with the sun, it can bring dryness and heat, so it is advisable to handle its power with care.

If one of our life cycles is coming to an end, we can also perform sun spells on Yule’s Day in the light of the rising sun for rebirth. On the Feast of Yule, several traditions celebrate the rebirth of the Sun God, so this is a great time to break with everything old and start something new.

If you want to write a sun spell by yourself, it is best to work with fire element. We can schedule the spell for Sunday or noon. Use gold, yellow, orange or red candles and wear gold jewelry. For smudging, use cinnamon, cloves, myrrh, sandalwood, frankincense, dragon’s blood, juniper, ginger, basil, nutmeg, peppermint, angelica, anise, chamomile, saffron, poplar, ash, bay leaves or rosemary. If you like to use some crystals, then yellow and red agates, amber, ruby, topaz, citrine, garnets, and yellow and red jasper are preferred.

In the rituals associated with the sun, juniper berries, sunflower seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, fennel, anise, rosemary, marigolds, citrus fruits, nuts, almonds, grapes, game meat or lamb, and bread made from all kinds of grains can be used for food.

Many women find it difficult to connect to the masculine side of the sun, mostly because of negative prejudices about the male deity of Christianity. Let’s try to put these aside and not let past experiences, bad mantras affect the wonderful experience we can go through with the sun!
